CHC Chinese Church

In early 2008, our senior pastor, Ps Kevin saw the need to start a Chinese Service to meet the growing needs of our Chinese-speaking community in City Harvest Church KL. After much prayers and planning, he then commissioned one of our pastoral staff, Shirley Boon to pioneer the new work.

The Chinese Church started their first meeting on January 13, 2008, with a handful of only 30 people. Although they only had a guitar and a keyboard for the praise and worship session in the early days, the presence of God was very tangible and the spiritual atmosphere was strong in their services. During the second week, they had a breakthrough attendance of 75 people. Ever since then, every week, many new friends attended the services and decided to be rooted in church.

The number of elderly members in our Chinese congregation also continued to increase. The church started off with only 6 elderly members. And today, we’ve grown to more than 40 elderly members. The members of this “golden age group” are very on fire and energetic to serve God passionately. They also submitted themselves under the young leadership and have inspired many of the young people to rise up and to love God even more.

The Chinese church also planted cell groups in universities and colleges to reach out to the Chinese speaking youths. They had also organized many events such as “Friends Night (Karaoke Competition)”, to attract young people to church; many young lives have been impacted and rooted in church.

Today, our Chinese church members consist of high-school students, university students, young working adults, businessmen, professionals, housewives and also family members. Although there is a certain age gap among the members, they are united as one for God’s purpose. As a matter of fact, the members are known for their friendliness and enthusiasm.

With strong leadership, discipleship and preaching of the Word, the Chinese church has experienced tremendous growth since it started. We began with 2 cell groups in 2008. As of July 2011, we are strength of 12 cell groups and an average of 170 people today.

In May 2010, Chinese church has moved from CHEC building to our current hall located at our new building office block. It is a new and exciting season to expand and grow this year.

The Chinese church is packed each Sunday and members are trained to love God with passion, to love people with compassion and to realize the cultural mandate! We believe the best is yet to come.
